Dream-Punk employs Dr. Hughes' theoretical research to reexamine the dream as a historical power struggle. Photographed images represent the author's five-year dream log, revealing nightmares and visions in the form of a narrative that opens a path of creativity in deciding what our dreams mean, rather than deferring to customary dream interpretation methods or the whims of dominant interests. The result is an unleashing of the dream's power in a vivid document that reads unlike any other, while setting the stage for a cultural explosion that blasts dreams into waking reality. Dream-Punk: A Nightscape concludes that a garage-punk, do-it-yourself approach to one's own dreams is an effective way to win a political battle few even know exists, while serving as a method anyone can use to take control of their own dreams. John Francis Hughes holds a doctorate from Simon Fraser University's School of Communication. He is a former university instructor, journalist and bike courier. John's first book, Nobody Rides for Free: A Drifter in the Americas, was published in 2012 (BookThug). John and his wife, Cat (and their kitty-cat, Luna), own Groove Cat Books and Records in New Westminster, Canada. They also own and operate Cosmic Cranium Press. When there's a spare moment, John likes to listen to punk rock or thrash metal while reading up on Hindu philosophy.
