Love takes many forms, not all of them pleasant. Poet Carl D. Foggey knows this well. In Dream Weaver, he explores many aspects of love, from joyful adoration to bitterness, pain, and the trauma of abuse. In poems filled with beguiling word play, he also tackles the theme of creativity. Organized into three distinct parts, Dream Weaver begins with "Sunrises"-poetry focused on the blissful happiness and passion that accompany love. His descriptive free verse perfectly captures the overwhelming rush of passion, when nothing except the object of your affection seems to matter. Dream Weaver next segues into "Floetics," a section in which Foggey brings the free-flowing storytelling style of slam poetry to the written page. Here is where Foggey's innovation and self-expression truly shine. Rounding out the collection, the poems in "Sunsets" highlight the darker side of love, expressed through pain, loss, betrayal, and even domestic abuse. Infused with elements of hip-hop and neo-soul music, Dream Weaver offers laughter, tears, and romance in equal measure. The four dozen poems in the book share lyrical, moving tributes to the high points of life while staring unflinchingly at the consequences of lost or misplaced love.
