Looking for a charming picture book to calm your child's fears? Here is an inspirational picture book that deals with the emotions that come with leaving home and doing the hard work of growing up. Human attachment is at the heart of this beautifully illustrated story that shows the ups and downs on the path to independence while highlighting relationships that make enduring adversity possible. Dreams of Zugunruhe features a young Arctic tern who learns about the coming of Zugunruhe-the instinctual restlessness that starts birds on a harrowing migratory journey. The young tern's mother both comforts and emboldens Little Tern as the two consider the voyage ahead. Charming and expressive illustrations enhance this beautiful conversation. Through Little Tern's anxious anticipation of Zugunruhe, children will receive the assurance and empowerment needed to face the drama of an adventurous life. Children will relate to Little Tern's fears of losing the way, surviving turbulent storms, and finding courage in adversity. They will also find inspiration in the spirit of these elegant yet rugged birds and as they endure the hardships of crossing oceans. Parents too will connect to Mother and the responsibility she holds balancing a child's needs to be both soothed and empowered while managing her own mixed emotions. Teachers, parents, and therapists will all relish the opportunity to share tender moments with the engaged and receptive young minds this story is sure to inspire. All readers will enjoy learning about the miraculous feats of the Arctic tern-the world's most accomplished traveler. This book is a wonderful addition to any home or classroom library. It makes a great read-aloud for any primary classroom or bedtime story.
