Loy Williamson was a man of many talents and interests. Born in Mt. Vernon, Missouri on February 10, 1900, he spent his life loving music, bands and the outdoors, He joined the Army at the age of 16 (Uncle Same thought he was 18), and served his country with pride. Because of his love for music, he played several instruments, his favorite being the trumpet. He married Inez Plumblee and the two of them spent several years traveling the country in the 1920's and 1930's with various 'Honky Tonk' bands. Loy was the band leader and Inez played Honky Tonk piano. When the couple had their only child - Norma Loy Williamson, they moved to Colorado and looked for more permanent work. Loy was employed in several fields, but two of his favorites were as the Band Leader at Dove Creek High School, in Dove Creek Colorado, and the other was the owner of the Texaco service station located in Rio Grande Land in Durango, Colorado. Loy died on January 14, 1961 - shortly after writing this book. I was only 10 when he died, but as his granddaughter - I learned much about him from reading these pages. I hope you enjoy...Durango Drifter. - Front Cover Illustration was made by the author
