One reason for disputing parties chooses to resolve their dispute through arbitration than court litigation is their expectation of privacy and confidentiality in arbitration. However; Ethiopian arbitration law is silent regarding the duty of confidentiality in arbitration. Therefore; the purpose of this research is to identify the legal basis, scopes, limitations and application of duty of confidentiality in arbitration the case of Ethiopian arbitration system. Data were collected through documents review and interview of seven judges, high court registrar, an arbitrator and an arbitration institutional director, who are selected purposively since they have direct relation with arbitration case. The finding of this research shows that the legal basis, scopes, limitations and application of duty of confidentiality in arbitration. Therefore; the house of people representative should enact new arbitration law to solve confidentiality issues in arbitration. Court support and controlto arbitration should be in close session and Supreme Court publication without the identity of parties. All arbitration process participants should signed confidentiality contract.
