This sad development continued for over 133 years until a native Master Sergeant, Samuel Doe of the Liberian army took over power in 1980 and attempted to put the Americo- Liberians in check by first executing 13 of their elites in a public sea side make - shift execution ground where the entire Monrovia populace were in attendance to witness the fall of an oppressive era in their history. The ex-slaves (Americo-Liberians) nursed their wounds afflicted by the native, presented by president Doe, silently while planning revenge mission.
