The author analyzes the documents produced by public teachers and inspectors of public primary education in the town of São Sebastião on the north coast of São Paulo in the period from 1840, when the first schools were created in the more distant districts of the town, to 1889, the end of the imperial period. Through these we identified the teaching materials used and the methodology employed by the teachers to develop the children's learning.

Autorenporträt
Graduated in Biological Sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas and Pedagogy from the Plínio Arruda do Amaral Faculty of Sciences and Letters, with a Master's degree in Education from the University of São Francisco. He is currently professor and coordinator of the Pedagogy course at Centro Universitário Modulo and Faculdade de São Sebastião - FASS.
