Bharati Ray, noted historian and educationist, taught history at Calcutta University and was its pro-vice-chancellor from 1988 to 1995. She founded the Women's Studies Research Centre at Calcutta University and served as Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. She is currently vice president of Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
