Bede, born around 672 or 673 AD, entered the monastery of Monkwearmouth-Jarrow as a child, dedicating his life to scholarship. Under Abbot Benedict Biscop, he studied scripture, history, and science, mastering Latin and Greek. His devotion to learning made him one of the most respected scholars of his time.He wrote extensively on theology, history, and science, with his Ecclesiastical History of the English People being his most famous work. Completed in 731 AD, it documented England's Christianization and set a standard for historical writing. His use of the Anno Domini dating system was a major innovation.Beyond history, Bede explored timekeeping, poetry, and education, with The Reckoning of Time showcasing his analytical skills. He died on May 26, 735 AD, and was later venerated as a saint. His legacy as "The Father of English History" continues to influence scholars today.
