Every year, during the month of October, artists participate in a world-wide social event called Inktober, created by Jake Parker in 2009. The movement encourages artists to create art every day during the whole month; a total of 31 drawings. Traditionally, the submissions are expected to be black and white line art. In 2017, James Art Ville accepted the challenge for the first time. Instead of adhering to the official Inktober calendar prompts, he chose to use his own artwork from his childhood as inspiration and re-created them using his developed style and skills. These drawings feature characters from his favorite cartoons, comics, anime, and video games. Fan Art has always fueled his creativity and in these pages he set out to not only pay homage to that unfettered spirited artist of his youth, but also find ways to build upon and improve it! Reflecting upon the before and after versions of these drawings inspires him. No artist masters their craft without practice, passion, and patience. This art book is not only a nostalgic personal memoir, but a good reminder of how much one can accomplish with hard work and determination. He hopes that this glimpse of his ongoing journey can inspire others to look with hope to the future with a little inspiration from their past.

James Arthur Ville (1988 - present) was born in Guadalajara, Mexico but grew up in the United States of America. His passion for illustrating began at 4 years of age. Watching television shows such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Dragonball Z inspired him to transition from pencil drawings to illustrating digitally. He spends most of his focus drawing for young adults and youth. From book covers to children's books, most of his work is done from home where he can be close to his four children in Southern Oregon. His most recent book is the Raising Dragons Graphic Novel, a comic book adaptation of the best-selling novel by Fantasy author, Bryan Davis. He looks forward to illustrating more graphic novels, either adaptations or his own stories. His favorite comic book artists include Scott McCloud, Art Spiegelman, Ken Akamatsu, and Akira Himekawa. In his spare time, James enjoys playing video games with his kids. They also spend their weekends hiking and reading books. His family means everything to him and that's what drives him to work hard and provide for their needs.
