Dr Karen Lau Jones is a science educator from Liverpool, UK. After studying Biochemistry at King's College London, she began her training as a developmental neurotoxicologist. She gained her PhD from The University of Liverpool under the mentorship of expert toxico-pathologist Professor C. Vyvyan Howard. Her research in collaboration with Lizzie Vann MBE (founder of Organix Brands), led to the removal of many food additives from food brands and supermarkets across the UK.Karen continued her research at the lab of pioneering neuroscientist the late Dr John W. Olney at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, and then worked as an Environmental Toxicologist for the Centre for Marine Environmental Research and Innovative Technology at the University of Hong Kong. She has written numerous scientific articles and her work has been featured in journals including Nature Communications and Environmental Health Perspectives.Karen created the Eco Fashion Dolls after spending time volunteering at Redress, an NGO that promotes sustainability in the fashion industry. She is currently establishing her brand of handmade sustainable toys and continues to write and illustrate children's books. In her free time, she enjoys nature photography and exploring the beaches of Southern California, where she lives with her husband and two young children.
