Trauma is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, in the United States trauma is the leading cause of death in patients under 45 years, 10% corresponds to abdominal injuries, causing about 1.6 million deaths per year, in Colombia are estimated 85,469 cases related to blunt abdominal trauma. In addition to its high incidence, it is reported that delays in timely diagnosis significantly increase morbidity and mortality in these patients. This study is a systematic review to compare the operative performance of ECOFAST vs. physical examination and tomography for the diagnosis of blunt abdominal trauma. The Ebsco, Pubmed and Sciencedirect databases were used to obtain 52 abstracts, from which the study took 15 articles for its development. It is considered in this study that, in the presence of any sign of hemodynamic instability in trauma, ECOFAST is the main tool for the detection of free fluid.
