This study aims to 1) compare migratory nomadic pastoral communities with the settled pattern in a district such as Bakkan including the rangeland, cropland and livestock and 2) identify the most appropriate models for sustaining livelihoods and agro-biodiversity, taking into consideration their unique culture, present status, strengths and limitations, sharing experiences and visions for the future. In addition, this study has adopted the following initiatives, which refer to the Bakkan region, located in Southern Iran, to govern its own work with local communities: Selection of a Nomadic Rangeland, Livestock, and Cropland production system Selection of a tribe(s) of settled nomads during recent years comparable with pre-settled one(s) with sufficient data of their integration with the environment (rangeland).
