Rice is the most important cereal food crop of India. It plays a vital role in the national food grain supply and is the main driver of India's food security. It occupies 35 per cent of the total area under food grains and contributes 43 per cent to the total food grain production in the country. The rice harvesting area in India is the world's largest. Tamil Nadu is among the states in India with larger area under paddy cultivated by using canal and tank irrigation. The present study is taken up covering the Cauvery Delta Zone representing canal irrigated paddy cultivation and Southern Zone representing tank irrigated paddy cultivation.
