Inefficient health care system and chronic deficit of health insurance funds hinder the proper introduction of new expensive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. During the last decade, positron emission tomography combined with computerized tomography (PET/CT) has proved to be a valuable tool for proper oncology diagnostics and staging, worldwide. The introduction of this expensive, but important diagnostic procedure on Croatian health care market may have a long-term positive impact, both, in terms of health improvement, as well as economically. The aim of this work is to investigate the economical impact of PET/CT diagnostic procedure.
