The book demonstrates that economic change occurred in South Nyanza during the pre- and colonial period. The study shows that during the pre-colonial era, changes were necessitated by the outbreak of cattle epidemics. When South Nyanza was colonised in 1903, the pre-capitalist economy of the area was integrated into colonial economy. Colonial capitalism therefore transformed the economy of South Nyanza. The study illustrates that the households in the area responded creatively to the new demands brought about by colonialism. Autorenporträt
Dr Timothy Ayieko Onduru (Ph.D) lectures at Moi University in the Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration. He obtained his B.Ed. at Kenyatta University, M.A. at the University of Nairobi and Ph.D. at the University of the Witwatersrand. His research interest is economic history.
