This book is describing the efficiency of resource use (land, labour, & capital) and the competitiveness of sorghum production in the rainfed farming in Sinnar state in Sudan. 173 households were selected for interviewing using a Multi-stage stratified random sample technique. Descriptive analysis, the Policy Analysis Matrix and linear programming techniques were used for analyzing the data. The results revealed that all farmers have cultivated sorghum as part of the farm crop composition. The average sorghum yield obtained by farmers in the traditional rainfed sector about 0.46 tones per hectare whereas the semi-mechanized sector is 0.37 tones per hectare. The Policy Analysis Matrix results showed that the Domestic Resource Cost (DRC), has the ability to compete in the international markets. The Nominal Protection Coefficient (NPC) has indicated that sorghum produced in the rain-fed sector was subjected to taxes during the year under study. The profitability of Sorghum production is higher in the traditional sector. Increasing the crop productivity by 20% would maximize the profitability.
