As a result of self and international pressure arising out of the need to increase human capital and the EFA commitments made in UN meetings respectively, Kenya has taken some steps to improve education access. However, due to their mobile lifestyle, nomads have not been accessing these static' social amenities such as formal education and health nor have these services been availed within their mobile setting. Currently, nomads can only access formal education by settling permanently, taking their children to boarding schools, or placing the children under the care of a relative in the settled lifestyle. These practices of accessing education are pursued only by very few and a large number of nomadic children are out of formal schooling. This book, therefore addresses the challenges and opportunities arising out of the paradoxes of formal education policies and nomadic ways of life.
