An educational program was conducted to increase diabetes knowledge and awareness in the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern region of Ghana. Pre and post test surveys were conducted to determine the knowledge etiology of diabetes. Participants were provided with information on how diabetes develops, signs and symptoms, preventative methods, and treatment options. Key takeaways from the program include increasing physical activities and proper nutrition based on the available foods within the region. Recommendations include increasing intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, foods low in fats and high fiber diets. Additional health fairs in other communities will provide more health benefits and reduce the overall healthcare cost and lifelong disabilities among the people of Ghana.
