This book addresses educational leadership in Tanzanian secondary schools in particular and worldwide in general. Chapter one explores the Tanzanian education system. Chapter two is concerning with theories of leadership. The chapter argues educational leaders to consider leadership as contingency. Chapter three is about emotional intelligence. Chapter four examines the concept of effectiveness as related to school leadership. The notion of middle-leadership and different role performed by middle leaders is described in chapter five. The concept of strategic planning and strategic intent is examined in chapter six. Chapter seven is about culture in educational context. This chapter shows explicitly that organizational culture operates at several levels simultaneously. Educational change is a theme given in chapter eight. The chapter emphasizes : the urgent reasons for change are now familiar. Chapter nine is about the part of school heads on the quality education. Alternative methods for capacity building of school leaders in Tanzania are discussed at length in chapter ten. Lastly, preparation and development of women into educational leadership is discussed in chapter eleven.
