Diabetes Mellitus type 2 and obesity are serious public health problems. Due to the need to increase the level of knowledge about these diseases, this research was developed with the objective of evaluating the effectiveness of an educational program to improve self-care and avoid the appearance of complications in these patients. An educational intervention study was carried out in obese type 2 diabetic patients in the CMF # 1 of the Policlínico Universitario III "Dr. René Vallejo Ortíz" of Manzanillo, from March 2020 to March 2022. The universe were the 66 obese patients with Diabetes Mellitus type 2, selecting a sample of 30 patients, by simple random sampling, through the lottery method. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were defined, and medical ethics were respected. The following variables were operationalized: age, sex, schooling, therapeutic regimen, time of evolution and level of knowledge (about self-care, treatment and complications). The information was obtained by means of a survey, and the educational program was validated by expert criteria.
