Esi Edugyan wurde 1977 in Calgary, Kanada geboren. Sie studierte an der University of Victoria und an der Johns Hopkins University und war Stipendiatin am Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown und an der Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Esi Edugyan lebt mit Ehemann und Tochter in Victoria, Kanada.
