Asthma is a chronic airway disease that is prevalent in developed and developing countries, affecting countless people in different age groups and ethnicities. The number of deaths from annual asthma is increasing. Existing medications always come with side effects therefore alternative measures are being taken to reduce these unwanted features. Among all long-used herbal remedies for asthma English ivy extract has been proven to have preventive effects on progression of asthma. In this study we have aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the main component in this extract; Alpha-Hederin. MicroRNAs-the up-stream role-players-have been targeted to shed a light on the pathway along with the key interleukins involved in asthma, moreover the possible mechanisms by which Alpha-Hederin plays its protective role have been investigated.
