Dentists have relied on their own expertise and various artefacts for generations to provide aesthetic and functional solutions to minimize the consequences of edentulism. Dental implant has been a successful treatment modality for restoration of oral function associated with missing teeth. The osseointegration on the hard tissue interface has been well established in most implant systems, however, the importance of the soft tissue interface, which forms the barrier or biological seal, has been increasingly recognized to be fundamental factor to implant success. The focus has also shifted to understandings the mechanism of biological seal formed at soft tissue-implant interface, which acts as a barrier against external oral environment. Both the hard and soft tissue-implant interfaces are influenced by multiple factors, such as, the implant factors, surgical protocol, and host factors. The integrity of the tissue-implant interfaces can influence the success of dental implant treatment.
