Lead is a major pollutant in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem wherein it may adversely affect the faunal and floral health. Vigna unguiculata is one of the most widely used pulse crop in India. The present work has demonstrated that V. unguiculata is lead tolerant and does not allow toxic effect even at high lead concentration. This study has suggested that, V. unguiculata could be used for detoxification in the area nearby industries where industrial effluents contaminated with heavy metals are released.
