Immunisation drop-out remains significant barrier to optimal immunisation coverage in Nigeria. Immunisation reminder and recall system is a cost-effective method of improving adherence to recommended immunisation schedules. This study determined the effect of mobile phone reminders and recalls on immunisation drop-outs at Abakaliki. This was a quasi-experimental study that involved 145 caregiver-child pairs followed up by reminders and recall. Data was collected using register, proforma and checklist. Statistical Package for Social Science version 22 was used for analysis. Comparable proportion of respondents in both groups perceived reminders and recalls very important. A significantly higher proportion of respondents in the control group dropped out of vaccination than in intervention group. This study has demonstrated the effectiveness of immunisation reminders and recalls in reducing childhood immunisation drop-outs and so is recommended in immunisation units to improve immunisation coverage in Nigeria.
