This research programme was undertaken inorder to study the response of greengram to molybdenum fertilization in acid soils of Pudukottai District, Tamil Nadu. The research programme encompasses 4 sets of objectives namely delineation of molybdenum status at the district, block and serieswise in Pudukottai District, response of greengram to soil application of graded levels of molybdenum fertilization, economizing molybdenum yields through seed, foliar and soil application, molybdenum release pattern in 2 distinct sources of molybdenum fertilizers namely sodium and ammonium molybdate, basic studies to assess N-fixation pattern in plants fertilized with varying levels of molybdenum besides high resolution imaging indicating N-fixation process. Overall the data suggest that Mo deficiency in pulses is prevalent in Pudukottai District especially when the soil Mo uses acidic pH. The study indicates that Mo fertilization is essential for promoting pulses productivity in this region.
