They are designed to keep the upper airway open by either advancing the lower jaw forward or by keeping the mouth open during sleep. They also improves daytime sleepiness, increases oxygen saturation, reduces the frequency and intensity of snoring, improves sleep quality for both patients who snore and their bed partners and also considering the patient adherence and compliance, oral appliances has been proposed as an alternative to CPAP.
