Negotiation, in its strict sense, consists of a process of communication between actors, each with his or her own viewpoints and objectives, seeking to arrive at a mutually satisfactory result on a matter of shared concern. Based on the negotiation theory, it shows that effective communication is an important part of effective negotiation. If both negotiating parties are committed to this goal, the negotiation process becomes an opportunity to learn from one another and join together to solve problems. Communication competencies are essential when managing conflict that could be damaging to the relationship of the negotiating parties.
