Mozambican democracy must be reinvented, in accordance with traditional systems of power, as a way of bringing it ever closer to the people, the true recipient of it. Politicians must be prepared to criticise and comment on others, without us having to fall into the trap of greed and individualism. And as long as we avoid the continuity of milles perpetuus and the signing of armistice treaties, as is the case with the latest memorandum of understanding. If we form real political parties and non-associated or armed groups, seriously combat the politicisation and elitisation of politics and educate society in the culture of peace, then we will have the desired effective peace in Mozambique. We urgently need to think about a genuine dialogue, giving priorities in the ethical, political, economic and social field. The Assembly of the Republic must be the home of the people, where parliamentarians strip off their party colours and take on the duty to serve the people loyally. Reflection and debate on the crucial issues of the people cannot be left to politicians by profession alone, but we must all be involved as a means of monitoring what is of the people.
