The literature covered conceptual framework on school inspection, historical background of inspection in Nigeria, objectives and purpose of inspection, roles and duties of inspectors, procedures and guidelines for inspection, problems of inspection, relationship between inspectors, principals and teachers during inspection and evaluation in inspection. Relevant methodological issues, pertinent findings and conclusion on ineffective inspectorate services were reported. Recommendations for effective inspectorate services in secondary schools in Adamawa state were offered.
