Over the past several years, a great deal of research has been undertaken to discover the effects of stretching on various athletic performances. This research has revealed two common discoveries about performance; stretching has a negative effect on performance and stretching has no effect on performance. This book provides an overview and critique of research on the effects of stretching on performance. Each study reviewed has relevance to the effects of stretching on the instep soccer kick. Additionally, this work provides detailed information on a study performed to discover the effects of static stretching on foot velocity during the instep soccer kick. This information should be helpful to coaches, athletic performance professionals, or persons in academia interested in the effects of stretching on performance.
