In all the sectors of industry today, production demands are ever increasing. Highly demanding and aggressive working conditions result in premature failure of the component or the whole system. Thermal spray coating has emerged as a versatile process to coat the components by hard, wear resistant materials. Out of several techniques, Detonation Gun Spray Process has emerged as a cheap method which has various advantages over other techniques. The main objective of the present study is to achieve improved mechanical properties and increase in wear resistance. The substrate AISI 316L was coated with three different coating thicknesses of Stellite-6 alloy. The specimens were subjected to tensile, impact, microhardness and dry sliding wear test.
