Tropicalization of Mediterranean Sea means the process of establishment of allocthonous species from tropical or subtropicals areas, often dominants and which might supplant indigenous species pre-existing in the Mediterranean area. Alien species may also compete for the conquest of food and territory, altering natural balance with a consequent reduction of biodiversity. Global warming plays a crucial role in the penetration, spread and settlement of non-indigenous species in the Mediterranean Sea. This phenomenon is progressively interesting in all the Mediterranean regions and has many negative consequences on the Mediterranean fishery sector.
