The quest as to what constitutes the best leadership style for improved employee performance in organizations has remained contentious in the management literature. In line with this Bass & Avolio developed the Theory of Transformational and transactional leadership styles to help in solving an organizational leadership problem. Researches have been conducted on transformational and transactional leadership styles in different environments (outside Nigeria) in the United States of America, Europe, and Asia among others with varying results. This study investigates the effects of transformational and transactional leadership styles on employee performance on a comparative basis in three organizations in Nigeria. These organizations include Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) Kaduna, Dangote Cement Plc. Obajana and The Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa. The leadership study of these organisation is critical because of the importance of these organisations to the country's economic development.
