For these reasons, hypertension is important risk factor for arteriosclerosis, myocardial infarction, heart failure and stroke. Despite extensive research conducted to investigate the mechanisms responsible for its pathogenesis, the exact cause of the appearance of increased blood pressure in most patients remains unknown.The primary aim of this book was to evaluate the therapeutic effects of Valsartan and Amlodipine, applied as monotherapy and combination therapy for treatment of hypertension followed by secondary complications. The effects of the studied drugs were analyzed through their protective action on the heart, aorta, kidneys and the brain in salt replete SHR rats.

Dr. Kalina Gjorgjievska finished the Medical Faculty in Skopje in 2003. Her professional activity in research and teaching (Assistant, Senior Assistant, Assistant Professor) is at the Department of Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, Medical Faculty in Skopje with main focus on preclinical and clinical (bioequivalence) studies.
