The rapid industrialization, growing population and changing life style are the root causes for increasing rate of solid waste generation in developing countries. The uncontrolled solid waste disposal in the cities is creating serious environmental and public health problems. The improper management results in high possibility of leach ate leakage with subsequent impact on soils, plants, ground water, aquatic organisms and human beings. Comparative assessment of the impact of a dump site on the quality of ground water (wells) was carried out in Gyadi Gyadi area of Kano metropolis Nigeria. The level of some physical and biological parameters of the ground water (wells) and dump sites were assessed, temperature, pH, conductivity, suspended solids, turbidity , hardness colour were determined in the water samples while e coil and f coli were determined in the waste dump samples. Mean concentration of some physical and biological parameters except that of temperature, colour, pH, and total dissolved solids were found to be above the acceptable limit of national and international standard of drinking water quality, WHO and NESREA.
