Diabetic dry eye has a very variable prevalence and its pathophysiology involves hyperglycaemia causing metabolic, neuropathic and vascular lesions. Conventional treatment with lubricants is often not enough in moderate to severe cases, which can lead to complications such as keratopathy, corneal opacities, eye perforations and loss of visual acuity. Platelet concentrate eye drops (POC) have already been used in ocular surface diseases due to their role in re-epithelialisation and the presence of growth factors and vitamins that resemble human tears. There are few studies reporting its use in dry eye, and none in diabetic dry eye. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of CCP in symptomatic diabetic dry eye.
