A field experiment was conducted in sandy loam soils of Phulbari VDC, Chitwan, Nepal from May to November, 2010 to study the efficiency of nutrients from various sources of organic manures on brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) yield. Eight treatments viz. natural fertility, biogas slurry (22 t ha-1), chemical fertilizer (100:60:40 N:P2O5:K2O kg/ha) as urea, DAP and Muriate of potash, farmyard manure (21 t ha-1), mustard oilcake (4 t ha-1), neem leaf (5 t ha-1), poultry manure (9 t ha-1) and vermicompost (12 t ha-1) were used in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The maximum plant height (88.42 cm), number of leaves (58.28), and number of branches (6.5) per plant, dry weight (119.6 gm) per plant, and fruit yield per hectare (23.43 t) were found from poultry manure application. The highest net return (Rs. 650717) per hectare was obtained from the poultry manure. So, it can be concluded that poultry manure is the best alternative to the chemical fertilizersfor the improvement of soil fertility and brinjal production in Chitwan.
