While reading has not been given sufficient attention, particularly with regard to EFL reader s meaning-making, it is well-known that much knowledge can be gained through reading. However, before one may benefit from such a source, he should first learn to read systematically and with full comprehension. It extends social, cultural and academic horizons. Therefore, the present research is an exploratory case study that seeks to show the importance of academic text passages, in terms of fiction excerpts, as both a linguistic and socio- cultural referent of English as a foreign language to develop some of the students reading metacognitive strategies that may facilitate to them the process of reading as a whole.
