Barry Eisler arbeitete drei Jahre lang in einer verdeckten Position für die CIA. Eine Zeit lang lebte er auch in Japan, wo er im berühmten Kodokan International Judo Center in Tokio den Schwarzen Gürtel erwarb. Seit dem internationalen Erfolg seines ersten John-Rain-Thrillers widmet er sich ganz dem Schreiben. Eisler, der 1964 geboren wurde, lebt heute mit seiner Familie bei San Francisco und in Tokio.
