MARGARITA ENGLE - Nacida en Los Ángeles, de padre estadounidense y madre cubana, Margarita Engle pasó los veranos de su infancia el pueblo de Trinidad, en Cuba. Allí creo fuertes lazos con su cultura de origen y con la naturaleza del trópico, lo que la llevó a estudiar agronomía y botánica. En su infancia también se acercó a la poesía en español, especialmente la de José Martí. Entre sus muchas publicaciones se encuentran las novelas en verso Tu corazón, mi cielo y La rebelión de Rima Marín. En el 2009, se convirtió en la primera latina en ganar un Newbery Honor por El árbol de la rendición: Poemas de la lucha de Cuba por la libertad. Sus memorias en verso incluyen La tierra al vuelo y Enchanted air [Aire encantado]. Este último recibió el Pura Belpré Award, el Walter Dean Myers Honor y fue finalista del YALSA Award a la Excelencia en No Ficción.
