José Luis Prieto garrido (Córdoba, 1954) es licenciado en Veterinaria por la Universidad de Córdoba. Su labor profesional ha estado unida al Servicio Andaluz de Salud, como veterinario oficial y profesor asociado de Ciencias de la Salud (Nutrición y Bromatología), de la Facultad de Veterinaria de Córdoba. Veterinario especialista en espectáculos taurinos desde 1978, actuó en diferentes plazas hasta su incorporación al equipo de la Plaza de toros de Córdoba en 1991. Es autor de Manual práctico veterinario en espectáculos taurinos (1998), premio Blas Infante de Estudios e Investigación en Administración Pública de la Junta de Andalucía, Cómo ver el toro en la plaza (Almuzara, 2006, 2009, 2015, 2022, 2023 y edición pocket 2012), El toro bravo en el campo (Almuzara, 2008, 2014 y 2024), Cómo ver una corrida de rejones (Almuzara, 2010), El toro de lidia y el arte del toreo. De la fiereza a la toreabilidad (2012), El toro bravo. Ganaderías míticas (Almuzara, 2012 y 2015), y Guía de campo del toro de lidia. Pintas, particularidades y encornaduras (Almuzara, 2013 y 2020). Ha sido vicepresidente del Colegio Oficial de Veterinarios de Córdoba, vocal de Salud Pública y Seguridad Alimentaria, y presidente de la Comisión Taurina de este Colegio. Ha dirigido varios cursos de especialistas en espectáculos taurinos. En 2021 fue designado para pregonar la Feria Taurina de Córdoba, con el pregón titulado El toro de ayer y el toro de hoy. De Pedro Romero a José Tomás. Ha participado activamente en cursos y conferencias sobre el toro de lidia, y escrito numerosos artículos al respecto. Es colaborador habitual de publicaciones taurinas especializadas.
