Autorenporträt
Alexandre Dumas's biography is almost as inordinate as his work. His father, who was the son of a French noble and an African slave, died when he was just a boy, and therefore the childhood of Dumas was marked by economic hardship. After working in various trades, such as errand boy or clerk, in 1823 he moved to Paris, where he began a prolific career that led him to write hundreds of novels, plays, melodramas, articles, memoirs and even a cookbook.
