The Hyundai Elantra LPI Hybrid ( LPI means "Liquefied Petroleum Injected") is a hybrid electric vehicle manufactured by Hyundai Motor Company and powered by an internal combustion engine built to run on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as a fuel. The Elantra PLI is a mild hybrid and the first hybrid to adopt advanced lithium polymer (Li Poly) batteries. The Elantra LPI is the world's first hybrid vehicle to use LPG as fuel for the internal combustion engine. The Elantra LPI was presented at the 2009 Seoul Motor Show, began sales of the Elantra LPI Hybrid in the South Korean domestic market in July 2009. The Elantra LPI has a 1.6 liters engine, a 15 kW electric motor, and a continuously variable transmission. The Elantra LPI Hybrid delivers a fuel economy rating of 41.9 miles per US gallon (5.61 L/100 km; 50.3 mpg-imp) and CO2 emissions of 99 g/km to qualify as a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV).
