The success of root canal treatment depends on thorough chemomechanical debridement of root canal space along with accurately determined working length. The apical constriction is the most practical and anatomic point for termination of endodontic treatment and this cannot be determined accurately by radiographs. The advent of electronic apex locators helps the clinician to precisely locate the apical limit of the tooth thereby reducing the exposure of repeated radiation to patients and at the same time accurately determining the working length in less time. The electronic apex locators along with the clinician's knowledge of the root canal anatomy will maximize the endodontic treatment outcomes.
