With the proliferation of mobile phones which provide a range of media, especially text messaging (SMS) and facebook, the youths seem to have discovered an instant dialogic and private medium of interaction. This book compares the linguistic features of text message and facebook. Using QDA Miner Wordstat- software for content analysis of text and images, as well as qualitative and quantitative analyses, it examines such variables as gender, bilingualism and area of study in order to arrive at its findings. These findings provide information on why youths make their choice between text message and facebook and why they seem to be addicted to these two electronic modes of communication. The findings will also help language teachers in the adoption of the right method in handling this new but dynamic variety of language. This book pays particular attention to Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Undergraduates.
