This handbook on elementary reading instruction takes a discursive rather than a prescriptive approach in its exposition of the critical issues related to the process of reading and reading instruction particularly at primary school level. It provides both the primary school teacher and the teacher educator with a sound grounding on the issues that impact the effective teaching of reading. The self assessment activities, discussion points and project tasks which punctuate the content of each chapter give the book a practical dimension which sets it apart from most of its predecessors
