The question guiding this work is what do people perceive to be the elements of effective preaching? This specific question was addressed to the First Congregational Church of Peterson, Iowa. After exploring the theology and biblical foundations of preaching, and after exploring preaching practices, a project study was conducted. The project included a tailored questionnaire that might be used at any church and a follow up focus group. This work helps to show the insights found in an important 1999 Lilly Study on preaching effectiveness.
