Iris recognition is widely regarded as the most robust and reliable biometric pattern for human authentication systems. Unlike fingerprint scanners, it does not require physical contact with the scanners. The government of India, including the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Aadhaar card system, has adopted iris recognition and integrated it into their identification databases. This technological advancement has revolutionized the lives of common people by making it difficult for fraudsters to deceive or manipulate the system. However, despite its strengths, the existing iris recognition system can be vulnerable to exploitation by scammers and criminals. Various incidents have been reported in the news where hackers and scammers have breached security systems and taken advantage of the system's flaws. Here are a few situations in which scammers can easily deceive iris scanners: Presenting a high-resolution digital image of an iris in front of the scanner instead of a real iris, thus gaining unauthorized access to an account. Criminals hiding their true identity by wearing fake iris lenses, which are readily available in the market. These security concerns raise the need for urgent solutions and intelligent algorithms to address these vulnerabilities. Without effectively addressing these practical security threats, the implementation of iris recognition systems cannot be considered reliable, and scammers might exploit these loopholes. Currently available algorithms are insufficient in mitigating these risks.
